Because we as humans forget the little things that can lead us to causing or being caught in a fire. Fire safety teaches about; the importance of placing fires we use in safe places and putting them out thoroughly before leaving them unsupervised; the importance of eliminating electrical hazards like extension cords used as permanent wiring, frayed or broken electrical cords, stapled cords and cords exposed to deteriorating conditions without conduit; the importance of having clear, marked and accessible exits from any building; the importance of knowing where exits are and practicing exiting during a fire situation; the importance of having a plan and making it known; the importance of emergency lighting in a smoke situation; the importance of an alarm system to warn building occupants in time so they can get out of a burning building; the importance of a fire suppression system like sprinklers in containing a fire; and the importance of buildings being constructed from material that does not burn rapidly and does not produce much toxic smoke. I’m sure once you get started there are lots more, particularly if you look at fires in the outdoors, Remember Smokey?
