m r asked:

I have always been excited with guns. I want to shoot at the local range but i have never shot any kind of gun before. They have a class that is $200 for 3 hours for a private lesson. I was wondering if that would be worthed.

Thanks in advance

That sounds a little expensive. Make a friend that goes to the range and learn from them for free. If you really want to learn to shoot and get free training join the military.

If you want to shoot a gun and learn how to do it safely it’s worth it.

Worth it? — Maybe - maybe not….. If you can not find anyone to teach you then yes spend the money…. Everybodys got a different personality…. If I want to know something I would hang out at the right place, ask questions and have somebody show me…. But Thats Me! —- I make friends easy so getting cars fixed, tires replaced at cheap prices and my plumbing done never cost me a fortune…….. If your not a social engineer so to speak of then pay for the course…. 35 Years ago I met a veteran at work that liked guns. I told him I was interested in firearms but was clueless…. I bought him lunch and a few beers after work and this guy spent a whole afternoon showing me how to use my new Ruger Mini 14 rifle… It operated the same way his Garand did in WW2…. He explained safety, firing stance and a ton of other stuff…. Find the right guy - treat him right, pay for the ammo and you will get a lesson that wont costs you a lot…. Most gun folks I have found are more than happy to show you what they know….

I highly recommend a class of this sort to any one who has never been around guns, or even to some one who has. It gives a general out look on weapons and weapon usage. Safety is number one with guns. knowledge is power. and in this case, life saving…

WAY too expensive. Go to your local sporting goods store (Gander Mountain hosts safety classes) and see what their schedule and costs (if any) are. I know that in our area, the local VFW and American Legion host safety classes for free to children of members. That’s how I got my boy in, and it’s worth your time to ask them about it, even if you aren’t a member.

That’s a little high. The range near my home offers classes at around 95-160 depending on the course. I would like to take a basic handgun class and defensive shotgun class.

That’s expensive but formal training is very valuable.

Does that price include ammunution that will be fired?

Some of the courses I have seen have gotten more expensive because ammunition prices are rising rapidly.

That seems a bit on the high side, but not outrageous. Around here private lessons are generally $50 / hour.

NO, NO, no, go to your local library it will have books, tapes, magazines, vhs tapes or dvd’s to learn about firearms safety.* It is not worth paying them $200.00 for three (3*) hrs of instruction.*

I agree with the first Answerer. Nothing better than being in contact with someone who has shot and experienced and learn from them

Firearms training is always worth it.
Would look into other ranges or clubs that offer the NRA hunter’s firearms safety course.
Use to be an instructor the course was free at my club a requirement to get a hunting license.
Might also look into the NRA US govt (DCM) Dept of Civilian Marksmanship sites.
