:- asked:

I know it’s an important issue, and I, myself wouldn’t know what to do in case of a fire.

Don’t they teach this stuff anymore in school? We did fire safety and prevention starting in kindergarten.

    1. Don’t play with matches and keep candles away from flammable objects.
    2. Stop, drop, and roll.
    3. Don’t smoke in bed.
    4. Make a fire safety plan.
    5. Practice evacuation routes in your home.
    6. Call 911.

Call you local Fire Department. When I was younger the fire department was happy to provide all kinds of materials about home fire safety and even had programs where firemen would come to your school and talk about fire safety.. Below are links to organizations that deal with home fire safety. Good luck!

Look under fire safety on the web and you will find lots of links to good information.

Ask your local fire fighter,it’s part of their job to teach fire safety. Also Disney and others have made fire safety films. At our house all the bedrooms are on the ground floor(No ladders needed for escape). There is a 20 pound fire extinguisher behind the master bedroom door;in an emergency you can smash the windows with it to create an exit if the bedroom hall way is engulfed. There is a 2 sensor smoke detector(Infrared and photocell for fast and slow fires) in the living room.A 5 pound extinguisher next to the stove and back door.I have another 20 pounder I have to get a bracket for.All members of the family know to meet at our mailbox across the road, under the streetlight, which has reflective numbers to help the fire dept. find us.All family members know that TWO exits,A window and a Door are in each room,if not three.I need to mount another smoke detector closer to the bedrooms.Newer ones are hardwired into the housewiring AC with battery back up,if one alarms, they all do.Start with a discussion at the dinner table of what to do and possible escape routes.Remember that you only have minutes before the roof falls on you,or the flames are all around you.Q’’s words to 007 in Tomorrow Never dies is Never let them see you bleed ;and always have an escape plan.Notice that the fire extinguishers are next to doors,if the fire gets out of control, escape and call the fire dept. They are better equipped.
